Our values aren't just about how we approach our customers and clients. They're also how we approach the communities in which we live and work. Whether it's charitable giving, volunteer work, or scholarships, we place great value on reaching out and giving back to communities in the U.S. and around the world.
Whether it's giving of our time to fill Christmas stockings, our dollars to help rebuild lives after a natural disaster, or our support to stretch the boundaries of the world we live in, Allianz Worldwide Partners makes caring our mission and giving hope our guiding principle.
Our financial contributions support organizations as diverse as our Allianz Worldwide Partners team. Each year, we give our associates the opportunity to nominate organizations that are close to their hearts. Last year, we helped feed and shelter those in need, contributed toward cancer research, and contributed to support rescue dogs.
Corporate donations also supported many local organizations including the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and American Diabetes Association. We also provided 450 girls in developing countries with bicycles so they can travel the long distances to school through ChildFund International's DreamBike campaign.
We also try to challenge people to think, question, and re-evaluate their way of thinking through sponsorships of forums and speakers, like those we support at our local Jewish Community Center.
We take pride in helping people around the world or just around the corner. Our associates regularly (and selflessly) donate countless hours and sweat equity to assist numerous local causes and non-profit organizations.
We have collected and distributed toys, clothing and books for local children, painted and repaired homeless shelters, visited nursing homes, and sorted diapers. We've collected canned goods, donated blood and cooked meals for those in need. Working beside our interns, we've helped clean up the banks of the James River. Wherever there's a need in our community, we make ourselves available to lend a hand.
At Allianz Worldwide Partners, we're not happy just talking about helping. We like to get our hands dirty, too.
Allianz Worldwide Partners believes in young people's ability to shape our future. We also support international travel as a way to help students grow and expand their horizons. For more than a decade, we have provided young scholars the opportunity to travel the world through our ScholarTrips program.
Since starting this national essay contest, we are proud to have awarded $100,000 in scholarship prizes to help middle and high school students achieve their dreams to study or volunteer abroad. We have enjoyed both sharing the joy of travel with students and hearing about their experiences.
Through the Allianz Foundation for North America, organizations in the Richmond community have benefited from generous grants that support programs that help young people develop the skills, motivation, perspectives, and opportunities they need to be successful, self-reliant, and socially conscious members of society. The Virginia Council on Economic Education and Girls for a Change are two such organizations.
