Insider’s Guide to the New York Times Travel Show

Every January, the New York Times Travel Show brings together hundreds of travel experts and destination representatives from 170 countries worldwide. Nearly 30,000 attendees come to nourish their wanderlust with new ideas to plan incredible vacation experiences.

We’re excited to contribute to this gathering of travel inspiration and knowledge as a top sponsor of the largest consumer travel and trade show in North America.  The event on January 26-28 showcases the best of cultural performances and enables discovery of the hottest and up-and-coming destinations, along with trends and insights from 280 speakers and gurus. The show created a terrific teaser video, which includes a word from Pauline Frommer and our own VP of Consumer Direct, Heather Harvey.

On Friday, January 26 for Trade Day, we invite industry professionals and media to join us for a cocktail hour at 4:30-5:30pm at the Allianz Global Assistance booth near the entrance to the show. We’ll be hosting a group of veteran world travelers and bloggers who can share advice, inspiration, and what having trip protection does for them. These experts, who are also brand ambassadors for Allianz Travel Insurance, include Lee Abbamonte, Johnny Jet, Natalie DiScala, Divergent Travelers, HoneyTrek, The Daily Suitcase (Laura Powell), yTravel, BonVoyageurs, and more.

We also seek to educate leisure travelers and road warriors about how trip insurance gives them the confidence to explore new places and culture. As a participant in the show’s “Meet the Experts” arena, our Communications Director, Dan Durazo, will be answering travelers’ questions about insurance on Sunday starting at noon. It’s a great opportunity for consumers to learn more about which situations can be covered by trip insurance, recommended coverage limits for specific types of trips, and how 24/7 global travel assistance works when the unexpected happens.

Attendees who visit our booth also have a chance to win cash prizes in a $5,000 giveaway contest. We’ll be asking consumers what motivates them to travel and discover new places. In our #ITravelBecause contest, three participants whose responses are drawn will win up to $2,500 in cash for their next trip!
